Green Fleet Capital Fuel Challenge

26th July 2007

This year's Capital Fuel Challenge, sponsored by Transport for London and GlobalLive, was held at the Guildhall Yard in London.  The Fuel Challenge was organised to promote fuel efficient and low emission vehicles and demonstrate the credentials of each model driving a pre-determined course throughout the Capital.

As well as exhibiting fuel efficient and low CO2 models, including the Lexus GS Hybrid, Citroen C2 Stop and Start and the Prius Hybrid from Toyota, Green Motion Vehicle Rental also entered Volkswagen's new Bluemotion Polo into the Capital Fuel Challenge, which was kindly provided by Volkswagen UK and was one of the first to be driven in London.

The Capital Fuel Challenge was set off by the deputy mayor of London, Nicky Gavron, with each of the participants navigating their way through the London traffic, progressing through four check points.

The first to return was the courier company City Sprint driving their electric powered Vectrix motor scooter with the Metropolitan Police, driving the Toyota Prius Hybrid, coming in at second place.  Green Motion's Volkswagen Polo, boasting its class leading CO2 emissions (99 g/km) and breathtaking fuel economy led the diesel vehicle field, taking pole position.

Richard Lowden, in an interview with LBC Radio, said 'the Capital Fuel Challenge has given the opportunity for both vehicle manufacturers and green transport organisations to showcase their vehicles and services.'  Richard went on to say that he was thrilled with the interest shown in environmentally friendly motoring by industry and national and local government.  The event also attracted many members of the general public.  Green Motion's exhibition was attended by many representatives of the private and public sector as well as Richard Noble and the deputy mayor, Nicky Gavron who both wished Green Motion every success with their official launch planned for later in the year.

As well as national press and LBC Radio, the Green Fleet Capital Fuel Challenge was also covered by Green TV.
