GREEN MOTION, THE LOW CO2 CAR AND VAN RENTAL COMPANY, COMPETES IN THE CAPITAL FUEL CHALLENGE 200831st July 2008Green Motion Vehicle Rental today took part, for the second year running, in the Capital Fuel Challenge organised by the Green Fleet magazine. As well as exhibiting two of its flagship rental vehicles - the Golf Bluemotion Estate and the Passat Bluemotion - at the Horse Guard's Parade, Green Motion entered two vehicles into the Capital Fuel Challenge itself. The first of the Green Motion vehicles to be entered was a Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion (with CO2 emissions of 99g/km) and was driven by the owner Company's new Manchester franchise, Howard Stalker, and navigated by Lyn Ramsell from Green Motion Head Office. The second vehicle to be entered by Green Motion was a Citroen C2 Enterprise Van (with CO2 emissions of 113g/km) driven by Martin Davies of AEA Technology and navigated by Tonia Smreczak. The eco Capital Fuel Challenge was set off at 9.30am by Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes. Visitors to the event were able to watch the fleet’s progress on a huge screen thanks to innovative route tracking technology from Trakm8 , a leading supplier of mobile asset management and vehicle tracking. Pole position was taken by Former F1 World Champion Damon Hill in an all electric Tesla sports car, which is capable of impressive performance and emits no CO2 into the atmosphere, with further vehicles from City Sprint (Vectrix Maxi Scooter), Carillion Fleet Management (Toyota Prius), Green Tomato Cars (Toyota Prius), The Royal Mail (Smith Edison), Royal Parks (Vauxhall Astra Dual Fuel), Westminster Transport Services (G Whizz Citroen C3), BT Openreach (Smigh Edison) and the London Borough of Islington (Smart EV). Out of the 27 vehicles entered, Green Motion Car and Van Rental celebrated the first and second place of traditionally fuelled vehicles (4th and 5th overall), only being beaten by all electric/hybrid technology. As a result of Green Motion's placing they have qualified to take part in the GreenFleet Awards which is being held on 25th September 2008 at Twickenham Rugby Stadium and which will be hosted by Richmond-Upon-Thames Council. Richard Lowden, founder and managing director of Green Motion Car and Van Rental, said 'it is great to be back for our second year supporting the Capital Fuel Challenge 2008. This event perfectly demonstrates the benefits to organisations and the environment of operating vehicles that have low CO2 emissions.'
